Abstract
:
Gallbladder carcinoma (GBC) is rare neoplasm. Very little information is available in the literature regarding the pattern of this cancer in kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The objective of this is to review all the cases of gall bladder carcinoma and to review the epidemiological, clinical, and pathological features of gallbladder cancer in three major institutions in KSA. We retrospectively reviewed the records of the pathology department at king Abdulaziz university hospital (1997-2004) and king Faisal specialist hospital and research center, Jeddah and Riyadh (200-2004). All the primary gall bladder carcinomas were included in the study. Twenty eight cases of primary gall bladder carcinoma were identified. The patents presented clinically with symptoms of cholecystitis, which includes attacks abdominal pain, dyspepsia, abdominal. Careful pathological examination of all the gall bladders resected for either inflammation or because gallstone is very important. Well sampling of any abnormal areas is very important in detecting incidental carcinoma in cases, which are not suspected clinically. The prognosis of primary gallbladder carcinoma is good when compared with other GIT cancer
