Overview :


-Home Economics was unveiled in the first term 1401 AH with one section for home economics under the Faculty of economics and administration.
-This section was officially resolved to be the Home Economics Department by the KAU's Council in 1403 AH as held on 02/04/1403 AH corresponding to 16/01/1982 as per Resolution no. (1) "Item Two" pertaining the prescription of Educational Home Economics at the Women's Division.
-The General Conference for Home Economics was held in 1402 in Saudi Arabia, which finally resoled five departments to be founded under Home Economics. These are:
-Educational Home Economics.
-Family and Child's Growth.
-Housing and Home Management.
-Food and Nutrition.
-Clothes and Textile.
-The six departments were then separated from the Faculty of Economics and Administration In 1403 AH corresponding to 1983. the Department of Educational Islamic Arts was founded as well during the same year. The courses of this Department had been previously taught as merely assistant courses at the other departments. -Family and Child's Growth department later became the Childhood Studies Department in 1412 AH corresponding to 1991.
-The developed plan was approved in 1427/1428 AH, to be then implemented at the beginning of the first term 1427/1428 AH.
-Finally, Home Economics departments became the Faculty of Home Economics by Resolution no. 3198, in 22/2l1435 AH.

To be one of the pioneering institutions in fields of education, health and appliance, achieving progress and development of the community as well as affirming its Islamic identity through modern technologies.

Mission :


Distinctly well preparation of the Saudi female, throughout the pioneering position and multiple majors in science, health, education, research and technology, having the total quality standards fulfilled and the Islamic identity of both family and society deepened, utilizing modernity and technology.

Goals :


The academic departments seek herein to play a positive role within the human development process in Saudi Arabia, mainly through graduating academically, educationally, culturally and socially well-qualified women throughout the various departments of this Faculty. This all can be attained through:
-Directing the students into one specialized branch of home economics.
-Developing the creative capabilities of the students, and helping them think, search and analyze in the given fields of theirs.
-Having the students to study up the modern trends of home economics.
-Focusing upon the Islamic teachings in connection with the academic majors.
-Having the students to examine up the societal problems in relation to the academic majors of theirs. -Preparing culturally well-qualified students.
-Training the students on the various social and communicative skills, which may have them qualified to interact positively within their families or the societal institutions.
-Encouraging the attempts of academic research at both master and doctorate levels.
-Enhancing the individual and collective researches in the given majors.
-Focusing upon the academic sessions and conferences at all local, regional and global levels.
-Keeping connected with the other universities in the given majors and any other related majors.
-keeping connected with the national academic, professional and educational institutions.
-Focusing upon the training courses and workshops, which are related to the given majors, and as well offering any potential services to families, environment and community.
-Contributing at the investing enterprises, which may help raise up the economic level of the national families.
-Contributing at the productive units and development centers, which may help develop our home economics and maximize the level of performance.
